Adiabatic cooling for dry coolers

Our customer, an expert in HVAC, cooling and fire protection, faced a problem with their dry coolers. These coolers were installed to provide acclimatization in the halls of Brussels Airport. At higher outdoor temperatures, the efficiency of these dry coolers decreased which caused a rise in energy consumption. In order to ensure the operational reliability and to reduce the rising energy costs, PCA designed an adiabatic cooling system. The adiabatic cooling produced an additional cooling effect, which could prevent the installation of additional batteries.

The installation consists of a high pressure pump group, an electrical cabinet and nozzles attached to the stainless steel hydraulic lines. The spraying system can be automatically switched on and off by measuring the outside temperature and relative humidity. The installation is also equipped with a compressor to dry the hydraulic lines. This prevents the formation of Legionella when the installation is shut down for longer periods and can also avoid possible damage due to freezing weather.
