Activated carbon filter for treatment of hydrogen chloride

The problem

A customer in the metallurgical sector came to us for the second time. They needed an installation for the treatment of hydrogen chloride. HCl in its gaseous form is colourless, highly corrosive and extremely dangerous. Because of these properties, it was necessary to treat this pollutant in order to avoid damaging the equipment further down the ventilation duct.

Our solution

PCA first calculated the concentration of HCl in the air flow of the production process. Based on this information, three different technical solutions were discussed and compared.

Together with the customer, PCA opted for a low-maintenance activated carbon filter.

In addition to removing hydrogen chloride, the activated carbon filter is also capable of adsorbing concentration peaks in the air flow. Due to maintenance reasons, the position of the activated carbon filter and the composition of the air flow, the filter was overdimensioned and built in electrically conductive material.

Specifications
