YOUCA Action Day 2017

YOUCA Action Day 2017

Corporate news

The second last Thursday of October is for Almeco ‘YOUCA Action Day’. For this twelfth edition, 15.000 youngsters will once again put themselves in the shoes of a working man or woman for one day. One of these youngsters, Hendrik Coenegracht, arrives at our front door. With their efforts, they will each earn 50 Euros for a good cause. This year YOUCA supports a youth project in El Salvador: Trias ngo.

El Salvador is not a pleasant country to grow up in: drug gangs terrorize the neighborhoods, the country knows one of the world’s highest numbers of homicides and no less than 25% of the youth doesn’t go to school nor practices a job. It is therefore not surprising that as many as 300 Salvadorans flee to the US daily. Trias aims to make the childhood of young people in El Salvador something to cherish again. They unite youth, give education, stimulate their entrepreneurial spirits and work on their self-esteem. They want to teach the youngsters to take their destiny into their own hands and build towards greater dreams and a brighter future.

YOUCA also wants to support young people in our own country. They will also donate to the following local youth projects: ‘Ratatouille’, ‘Caravan’, ‘Diggie Vzw’, ‘Together We Stand’, ‘Missing You’, ‘Shoot for Dreams’ and an Okan cultural project of 'College Ten Doorn'.

The young worker bees may choose between different jobs. Whether they want to be a dentist, farmer or schoolteacher. Or, like Hendrik, join Almeco for the day. Hendrik followed the marketing team in the morning and in the afternoon, he worked himself to the bone in the workshop.

We were very pleased with his presence and were happy to support this beautiful project.
